Jazz Melodic Minor Scale

by Jay Ford, Director on November 24, 2021

The final minor scale we are going to look at is the Melodic Minor Scale also known as the Jazz Melodic Minor Scale.

The notes of the A Melodic Minor Scale are A, B, C, D, E, F#, G# A.

Unlike the Traditional Melodic Minor Scale, the notes are the same ascending and descending. If one was to review the Traditional Melodic Minor scale you find the scale is a Melodic Minor Scale ascending and a Natural Minor Scale descending. That is what I meant when I wrote the Traditional Minor Scale is like two different scales in one.

The twelve Melodic Minor Scales are:

A, B, C, D, E, F#, G#, A
E, F#, G, A, B, C#, D#, E
B, C#, D, E, F#, G#, A#, B
F#, G#, A, B, C#, D#, E#, F#
C#, D#, E, F#, G#, A#, B#, C#
G#, A#, B, C#, D#, E#, F##, G#
D, E, F, G, A, B, C#, D
G, A, Bb, C, D, E, F#, G
C, D, Eb, F, G, A, B, C
F, G, Ab, Bb, C, D, E, F
Bb, C, Db, Eb, F, G, A, Bb
Eb, F, Gb, Ab, Bb, C, D, Eb

Happy Thanksgiving!!
