Ben has been an instructor since 2017 when he was in high school. He has taught people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels, and even worked as a Core Music Tutor at Berklee College of Music for three semesters. There he helped people understand subjects such as chordal harmony, ear training, basic conducting, counterpoint, and classical voice-leading. He focuses on giving students the tools they need to develop their own musical voice, both as performers and writers. This is accomplished through not only giving examples of exercises that push the physical technique of the student, but also diving into the theories behind the exercise, so that the student comes to understand the musical applications that are possible with any phrase they might run across. In this way they can learn not just how to play more efficiently around the kit, but also be able to digest a piece of music they've never heard before and immediately start creating with it, which is the essence of sightreading, studio playing and musicianship.
